Combos Utilizing Penance

change black or red on Penance to whatever color creatures your opponent is playing. Put a card from your hand onto your library and you can't be damaged.

Tap Wand of Denial to look at the top card of opponent's library. If that is a land card, enchant opponent's creature with Paroxysm. When he draws that card, the creature enchanted by Paroxysm dies.

Pump up Crypt Rats and deal of lots of damage. Prevent it hurting you with Penance

Have Penance in play. Tap Balduvian Shaman to change red or black on Penance to color of damage source you expect. Put a card from your hand to top of your library to prevent damage from that source.
